Crazy Dr Sanger reference

Description

Oh god sorry about the huge size. :) But then, it's Sanger, it needs to be huge.

Crazy Dr Sanger as he appeared in City of Heroes, a version of Van Sanger / Istvan / Vanya that I'd made primarily because OMG SEXY ANIMATIONS.

While he only hit level 20 in the last week of the game, he'd been around 16+ for ... well, ages. Put it this way, I have some screenshots of the ORIGINAL character selection screens, and his was the 4th slot in the Protector server list - and used the old-school "origin based" selection highlighting. He'd been around FOREVER.

I moved him from Protector over to Victory to be with my other Sangers (as witnessed by the supergroup listing there in the bottom of the picture).

His story is the same as any other Sanger including Atrocity, who is pretty much the flip side of the spectrum. Messed with as a youth and with murdered parents, eventually salvaged by Engell and Alabaster, and 'rescued' from insanity by Daverin.

First costume had a variation but since I didn't get that one saved in the tailor (I believe the arm/shoulder options had changed and it reverted to bare rather than with the collar and gloves) I recreated it. The color combination too wasn't originally available, actually, I used 'blend' on the leather pants but later on they added the ability to color it appropriately to the textures.

The "Is there something on my back" line is straight from our tabletop RPG sessions, though it wasn't Sanger that said it - it was actually from a completely different (non-cthulhu) game but still it suits him to an absolute t. I posed under Atlas showing off with him for a while. The outfit as it is is very similar to the one which he's often seen in the novel about him, Body Dancing (aka </body>) where he basically strolls around half-naked most of the time.

Second costume is his nice tux - this is actually also in Body Dancing, as Alabaster is set up to do bodyguarding work at a presidential event and he has to "look nice". The original version of that costume also had difficulty showing up in the tailor without reverting to something else, and thus I had to recreate it too. The original face is the "older face 2", which I quite like on him, but the supernatural face that is on the others is excellent as well.

The little one in white on the right is the beta-COV (yes, I was in COV beta) version. That one eventually evolved into Atrocity on live servers, as he was a stalker (since, you know, you couldn't make scrappers then in cov). One of my favorite costume parts were those pants - because even though there wasn't any 'actual' bulge there on the crotch? It sure did LOOK like there was. :D

Third costume is the "Istvan Sanger the cheetah-shapeshifter Victorian" version. Sanger stemmed from our old call of cthulhu game, which was a 'gaslamp' era one. Istvan was infected with therianthropy, in the form of a cheetah morph. If I could have used the cheetah head WITH hats or hair, I would have used that one, but you can't add hair or hats to the 'monstrous/animal' heads :( He also has swooshy aura in that costume.

Last costume is his "Vanya Sengihr the Zekiran Outsider" version, which has a bit of backstory to it - Vanya Sengihr being his Zekiran version. Outsiders are resurrected individuals unable to die, in the Zekiran setting. He lives for ... oh I dunno, more than 2 billion years. In the first 60k of that, still on Zekira, it appears that the ghosts of dead Zekirans are attracted to Vanya. He allows them to inhabit him, they work their psionic powers through him - but as that happens, not only does it diminish their own presence eventually wearing them into oblivion, but it causes everything he's wearing or has near him to bleach to white eventually. He wanders the world alone much of the time.

Artwork in the middle includes the gorgeous and absolutely perfect Joe Phillips version, holy hell that is the most dead on accurate young Van Sanger ever made. Below it, Brandon McKinney's terrific action pose done in the then-current 'animated' style (that was done in 2000). I would seriously consider rerolling this character as a staff fighting scrapper, because of that and at least one of my own pieces of art where he's got a staff.

Sanger in Paragon lived on Talos Island, overlooking Spanky's Boardwalk. Shown is the map, building, and him on top of it.

Any future references of Sanger (or any existing ones, I can't even remember whether I've posted one yet) will certainly include many of these images, because they're pretty much how I envision him. Tanned skin (though as a Victorian he had more mushroom-pale didn't-get-out-much-olive skin tone) with vibrantly black hair, widows peak, "sanger blue" eyes - peacock teal blue eyes. There's a guy on here, ~RENEKARI that is exactly what he'd look like if he were a real person.

I definitely miss playing Sanger, he was sex on legs.
