These Ain't Santa's Elves!

Years ago when I ran the Mira Mesa Comic Gallery, I had basically full control over what went in the window display out front. I tried to keep product out of there, because it would just get sun damaged, but we had a good bunch of fun window displays with or without actually showing individual comics, games, or toys.

This one... Well, this one we went kinda nuts. It wasn't the first time that I'd done standups for the display - one of them had a more random selection (because the title of that display was "you never know who'll pop up in a comic!" and thus ranged from Martha Washington through the Sandman) - and I had to enlist several people to help color the pieces. Unfortunately they were done on slightly shiny paper, which meant that the ink as well as the colors were a bit difficult to achieve. We mostly went with crayons for color and sharpies for the lines.

I'd take the image I wanted, run up to the copy shop in the corner of the mall, enlarge it and then outline it on the paper. Stick some cut out cardboard on the back, viola, standee.

I had been looking through a bunch of my old print photos for something (which I didn't actually find) and came across this set of images and a few others that I scanned in for shits and giggles.

This one I'm going to be sending off with another bunch to Richard Pini because he's in one of them Several Elfquest elves are in this, along with a slightly disproportionate number of Poison Elves....
